Students demonstrate their mastery of the material not only by solving the problems posed by the exercises, but also by discussing them with their peers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Let&#8217;s see how this notion plays out on a daily basis in conjunction with the other course requirements and methodologies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-text-color has-background has-cyan-bluish-gray-background-color has-cyan-bluish-gray-color is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-flow wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>A TYPICAL WEEK IN CL 210<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-flow wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">MONDAY \u2014 Review<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mondays are for asking questions about the material, reviewing the material on a large scale, and addressing the course as a whole.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">During class<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Students ask questions about the material, and the instructor reviews it as needed.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The instructor reinforces old material with impromptu exercises and drills.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The instructor reviews instructions and guidelines for assignments, exams,  and other assessments.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-text-color has-background has-black-background-color has-black-color is-style-dots\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">TUESDAY \u2014 Teamwork<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tuesdays are teamwork days. Although new material is presented, much of class time is devoted to students working together in teams, or <em>factiones<\/em>, which will be randomly assigned that day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Before class<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Read and review the appropriate portions of the textbook, noting questions along the way.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">During class<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The instructor presents new material. Students ask questions about it, and the instructor responds as needed.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Students assemble into their <em>factiones<\/em> and collaborate on completing the worksheet of the day via Google Docs, talking through the various problems and arriving at definitive answers. The textbook, notes, and other resources \u2014 including the instructor \u2014 may be consulted.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The instructor circulates while the <em>factiones<\/em> are at work. They check the completed work, offering commentary and guidance as necessary, and award points at the end.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>All teamwork counts toward your Teamwork point totals. Everyone in your <em>factio<\/em> will receive the same score, unless they are absent.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-text-color has-background has-black-background-color has-black-color is-style-dots\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">WEDNESDAY \u2014 Homework<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Due<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>A brief homework assignment, due noon (EST) by email.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>All homework counts toward your Homework point totals.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Unexcused late work will not be accepted.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Remember to follow <a href=\"https:\/\/classics.domains.skidmore.edu\/cl210\/syllabus#formatting\" data-type=\"page\">the Formatting requirements<\/a>.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-text-color has-background has-black-background-color has-black-color is-style-dots\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">THURSDAY \u2014 Teamwork<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Another teamwork day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Before and during class<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Same procedures as Tuesday.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-text-color has-background has-black-background-color has-black-color is-style-dots\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">FRIDAY \u2014 Homework<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Due<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>A brief homework assignment, due noon (EST) by email.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>All homework counts toward your Homework point totals.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Unexcused late work will not be accepted.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-text-color has-background has-cyan-bluish-gray-background-color has-cyan-bluish-gray-color is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>EXAM WEEKS<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An exception to the weekly schedule above is an exam week, during which some classes will not be held in order to give students time to complete a take-home midterm exam. As noted on the syllabus, exams are open-book, open-note \u2014 though you must work entirely on your own.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Prior to an exam week, the typical Friday homework assignment is cancelled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During an exam week, the Monday and Tuesday classes are cancelled, along with the Wednesday homework assignment. The exam is due by email and voicemail at noon (EST) on Tuesday. (Or, since March 16 is Break Day, Wednesday.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The midterm exams are due 03.17 and 04.13.
