Please do the following.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-text-color has-background has-black-background-color has-black-color is-style-dots\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">READING<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Review, as necessary, the prompts and readings for the previous class.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>We&#8217;ll continue our discussion of the film by considering these readings, especially with an eye toward the value added of an animated approach to fantasy filmmaking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-text-color has-background has-black-background-color has-black-color is-style-dots\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">VIEWING<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Re-watch the opening sequence of <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/digitalcampus.swankmp.net\/skidmore372731\/watch\/D1E4A624E88DB08E?referrer=direct\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Clash of the Titans<\/em> (1981)<\/a> \u2014 everything after Leo, the MGM mascot, roars until around the 00:02:18 mark, where the camera pans away from the receding ark to a soaring seagull.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>As you watch, think about the various kinds of shots involved in this sequence, but not at the expense of taking in the sequence as a whole.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-text-color has-background has-black-background-color has-black-color is-style-dots\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">REFLECTING \/ WRITING<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Review once again the opening sequence of <em>Clash<\/em> &#8217;81, this time numbering and identifying the various shots in the sequence.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Your identification should take stock of the proximity of the camera to the subject (long, medium, close, etc.); the angle of the camera, where important (eye-level, high, low, etc.); and movement of the camera (pan, tilt, zoom, etc.).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some additional suggestions:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>DO make liberal use of the ol&#8217; Pause-Play button.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>DO consult <em>LAM<\/em>, chapter 6 (pp. 205\u201317), as well as the <em>LAM<\/em>-inspired \u201c<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/classics.domains.skidmore.edu\/film\/print\/glossary.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">Critical and Technical Glossary of the Cinema<\/a>\u201d handout, in order make your identifications as technically correct as they can be.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>DON&#8217;T sweat identifying every single shot. Make an effort, but if you don&#8217;t know what a shot is, move on to another. There are no penalties for being wrong.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In class we&#8217;ll review the sequence, compare notes, and discuss how this opening relates to the rest of the film \u2014 both as a collection of shots and as a prologue.
