The first two class sessions of Mapping Rome will define and develop the concept of mapping, whether as a drawing of the earth's surface that shows the distribution of physical or geographical features; or as a representation of experiences, fields of study, or ideologies; or something in between.
Students will begin to become familiar with basic Roman topography, receptions of Rome in cultural imagination, and the overall place of Rome in the historical continuum. They will also understand the overall trajectory of Mapping Rome and the various components of the course that culminate in our travel seminar, Exploring Rome. |
